I will be an April fool forever

The same thing happens to me around the same time every year. I get a little melancholy towards the middle of March and I don’t know why. Mind you, I said the same thing happens to me around the same time every year. I guess it’s my mind’s way of protecting me from the pain that soon follows.

Right around the 31st of March I begin to figure it out. Magically it all falls into place. April 1st is the date of my grandmother’s birthday. And I loved me some grandma.

My grandmother had such fun with April fool’s day. She would trick you first thing in the morning and all throughout the day and she loved it. When waking up at six in the morning the last thing on your mind was that grandma was playing a joke on you. Hands down she was the best. So when April fool’s day rolls around year after year it just reminds me of how much I miss her.

So here I am up at 12:40 in the morning on April 1st sitting here remembering her. Then I think about my mother and my aunts and uncles and wonder does this day affect them the way it does me.

So with a mixture of sadness and happiness I enjoy April fool’s Day. Because it’s my way of saying happy birthday and I miss you grandma.

The Tudors Season 2 Premieres

“We cannot have three people in a marriage. Why can’t you see that,” Anne Boleyn asks King Henry VIII played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Keep in mind this is the king’s mistress trying to push the Queen of England out of her own marriage.

Venture with me into character land… Has Anne Boleyn lost her mind? What a pushy manipulative little tramp. The day has come when a mistress actually has more power than the Queen of England. Have they all gone mad?

The Queen of England beautifully played by Maria Doyle Kennedy maintains her dignity, poise and resolve to remain the king’s rightful wife. While waiting patiently for the King to return to his senses.

My first reaction would have been to wrap my hands around Anne’s dainty little neck. Which brings me to this thought? Why didn’t the Queen fight harder? Or better yet why didn’t she fight dirty?

I was thinking perhaps a little cyanide in Ms. Boleyn’s tea or an accidental push down a flight of stairs? Better yet maybe something’s done to spook Anne’s horse while she was out riding with the King.

Forgive me I do get a little carried away. I give Kudos to a woman who could remain dignified and true to her nature throughout the whole ordeal. Makes you wonder if a women today had as much power as a queen what would she do with it.

I thought it was strikingly on point when The Pope played by Peter O’Toole said, “Why don’t we just get rid of the whore?”

Keep watching “The Tudors” it will certainly keep you entertained this season.

Admit It Jill Scott Stole the Movie

Jill Scott gave a tender poignant performance as an overweight woman struggling to hold her marriage together in Tyler Perry’s “Why did I get Married?”

I was genuinely touched by her character. She embraced the character head on unafraid to expose herself in scenes where being a full-figured woman could have certainly hit home for Ms. Scott.

Tyler Perry has been quoted giving praise to Janet Jackson for her performance. Whereas I found it difficult at times to watch her on the screen. The most notable scene that comes to mind is when her character breaks down in front of her husband concerning the car seat incident involving their child. I was literally horrified as I sat through it. You know that gut feeling you get when you feel embarrassed for someone. I glanced over at my daughter and we both cringed in unison.

I understand that getting a Mega star like Ms. Jackson to appear in one of his films must have been a dream for Mr. Perry. However, the casting of Jill Scott was the true success for this film. I sincerely hope that casting agents, directors or whomever are ringing Ms. Scott’s phone off the hook.
